Social Expectations

Dear God,

I’m becoming more and more reclusive, but there are people who require my attention. It’s become a real test of stamina, or of prioritizing what I can do. I have to pray the Surrender Novena every morning just to keep my sanity. Thank You for that. You make things simpler. To have You as our loving and sovereign God in a world full of crises and demands is my sole consolation.

Some people want me to be more political and active. Some people want me to be more contemplative and undisturbed. Each has their preference, and it’s okay. The Body of Christ consists of many parts, hidden and visible, but all necessary. If we follow our vocation faithfully, You’re the One Who makes the miracles.

We’ve passed the feast days of Saint Monica and Saint Augustine this year. Such a poignant time—in light of my own conversion experience, and for those we love who don’t know how to connect with You. Holy Spirit, please allow the planted seeds to grow, the fire not to die out in their hearts. Give a reward to those who have been so patient and steadfast in their prayers. Let the greatest sinners become the greatest saints of our time. And for the lukewarm, the spiritually dead, may You bring them back to life. Amen.
